The collected sixteen essays of this commemorative publication, which Eckart Schütrumpf has appropriated by friends and colleagues, pay tribute to his influential work. The variety of topics as well as the linguistic variance (English, German, Italian) reflect the wide range of research interests of Schütrumpf. The volume includes studies on ancient philosophy, history, politics and literature. The individual contributions deal, among other things, with the reconstruction of Socratic thought in the Protagoras, with the structure and history of the works of Plato and Aristotle. But they also discuss Platonic and Aristotelian notions of justice, good governance and poetry - and also treat their reception with Plutarch and Horace. Furthermore, a look at the history and historiography of Sicily, Olympia, Arcadia and Sparta is thrown and the historical interactions with early Christian narratives are highlighted. Other contributions include paintings by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri and Nicolas Poussin, German propaganda rhetoric from the 19th to the 21st century, and literary theory by Stefan Zweig.
