A Lens Without Limits: The Photography of Lida Moser

Public Deposited

Catalogue of an exhibition at the Trout Gallery, March 2 - April 14, 2018 Senior Exhibit, Art and Art History Department, Associate Prof. Elizabeth Lee, Dickinson College The art historical methods exhibition is by its very nature a collaborative undertaking that depends upon the support of many people across several months of planning and preparation. This year, no one deserves more praise than Dickinson’s Board of Trustee member, Eric Denker ’75, who has generously loaned The Trout Gallery roughly five-hundred photographs by Lida Moser for this exhibition, a fraction of which are on display. Dr. Denker was Curator of Prints at the Corcoran Gallery of Art when he first met Moser in the late 1990s, shortly after she had retired to the Washington, DC area. They became fast friends. When Moser died in 2014, Denker became the executor of her artistic estate and thus was able to make so many of her photographs available to students at Dickinson. In addition to the loan, Denker has contributed to the research for this exhibition by providing hard-to-find resources related to Moser and, especially, by sharing his impressions and memories of her. He has also connected us to family members, colleagues, and friends who knew her and our interviews with each of them have been indispensable to our research.
